    This is a great interactive puzzle, if you have a Java-enabled browser. Enchanted Mind has other "ponderable puzzles." Their site is devoted to creativity and includes much on the science of creativity.

The Puzzle Factory

    This site has a few tangrams among other types of puzzles. It does require a Flash plug-in, but you can downlad it for free.

    The site of a true Tangram hobbyist, it includes good history info, instructions for making a set, many figures to try (promises a new one each week), great links page (mostly annotated, with a number that we don't list.)

    If you're brave or your German is very good, check out this interactive Tangram game. Available for "Ein" or "Zwei Spieler" — but the two-player version shifts you to a "Chat-Bereich" online to wait for a second player.

Tangram Tutorial from Advanced Reasoning, Inc.

    A tangram tutorial which includes a mathematical introduction to tangrams for teachers or older students. This site has a great annotated book list at http://www.uconect.net/~advreason/tanbibl.htm

    Tangram patterns and games, including shareware for a tangram based game called "Patterns."

Tangrams (Mac based)

    For Mac users, a program that includes 100s of puzzles, with the ability to flip, rotate and drag tiles to create new puzzles. (Since we're PC based, we couldn't check this one out, but it seems comparable to the German site Tangram Digital.)

Tessellations, Puzzle, Prints & More

    A source for foam rubber tangram sets. Also features puzzles based on repeating shapes (Escher- like). Site is hard to read, but the information is useful.

The Eighth Book of Tan, Part I, by Sam Loyd (Dover Publications)
    This delightful book of tangrams contains over 700 puzzles that illustrate Loyd's tongue-in-cheek text. Solutions are provided.

Grandfather Tang's Story, by Ann Topert.
    A good introduction to use with children, both for tangrams and for storytelling. Grandfather Tang uses tangram shapes to tell a story.

The Master Revealed: a journey with tangrams, by Barbara Ford. (Tandora's Box Press)
    An excellent and entertaining source of 400+ original tangrams and solutions.

A Sage's Journey: the story of tangrams, by John L. LeHet. (Maverick Press, 1998) paper, $5.95
    A story using tangrams to illustrate a boy's journey to find the first tangram.

Tangrams: 300 puzzles, by Ronald Read (Dover Publications)
    Read groups his puzzles by type and offers solutions to all. He also introduces the 15-piece puzzle.
