Our Library shows from past summers are still available!

Kaleidoscope program from FLYP2005:

Take a Florida Story Cruise on the S.S. Kaleidoscope!

The Kaleidoscope Storytellers and their puppet partners are setting sail in the summer of 2005, sharing fresh stories from Florida's history, ecology and many contributing cultures as part of the Florida Library Youth Program.

Combining two popular programs from previous years, storytellers Terry Deer and Suzie Shaeffer invite audience members to spin the ship's wheel and choose the next "port of call." We might drop anchor anywhere from St. Augustine to Key West to Pensacola, including a few inland "harbors."

Suzie and Terry and their puppet partners have lots of stories on board the S.S. Kaleidoscope: "We've toured Florida libraries, schools and festivals for six years and still haven't told every story we know. Even after playing the Storying Around Florida game twenty-four times last summer, we still have a boat-load of Florida tales to share at a spin of the story wheel."

Storying Around Florida!
The Kaleidoscope Storytellers will take children on a tour of Florida without even leaving their local libraries.
From the Florida Panhandle to the Keys, stories wait around every bend in the road, and we'll have time to sample them all - provided that we land on the right space!

Volunteers from the audience play the "Florida S-s-s-Story Game" by rolling oversized, soft-sided dice and moving Flyp the panther along a track that covers the entire state. Colored spaces indicate whether Flyp has landed on "Farms and Groves" (stories about Florida landscapes, wild and cultivated), "Up, Up and Away" (flight and winged creatures), or "Alligator Alley" (Florida animals), among others.

Pick a Hat, Pick a Story!
Here's what Theresa Owen, Children's Coordinator of the Flagler County Public Library in Palm Coast had to say: "Your program this year 'Pick a Hat, Pick a Story!' was an ingenious way to incorporate the State theme [Hats Off to Libraries] into your storytelling and puppetry. Our audiences loved the fact that they could actively participate in the program. You provided many opportunities for audience participation, from selecting stories by throwing a ball at the hats hanging on the clothesline to actually taking part in the show."

Spin the Kaleidoscope Story Wheel
Children loved being the ones to choose the category of the next story by spinning the Story Wheel. We had tales ready in each of eight different categories, matching all the themes chosen by the Florida State Library for "Color Your World With Books - Florida Library Youth Program 2002."

Turn the Kaleidoscope for Chills and Thrills @ the Library
We love a good mystery, and if there's a shiver or two in the ending, so much the better. From twisty puzzles to graveyard plots, the Kaleidoscope Storytellers are on the case. The fun is elementary, my dear Watson!
