| Kaleidoscope school performances |
| |
We
have a combined repertoire of over two hundred stories. Drawn
from many cultures and areas of the world, these traditional
tales touch on a wide variety of subjects. Our performances always
feature a kaleidoscope of storytelling techniques, including
tandem telling, puppet partners, song, poetry, props, creative
drama and audience participation. To add to the educational benefits
of the storytelling presentations, each school program comes
with a teacher activity packet for classroom use.
Currently we are offering eight pre-assembled
Kaleidoscope programs designed for schools, but let us know if
you have a different theme you would like us to work with. As
long as we have a few months' notice, we can create a sequence
of stories designed especially for you. (You may want to also
look at the shows we are touring
to public libraries.)
For each show we choose from a pool of
appropriate stories to match the needs of the audience. On our
school shows now on tour
page we give information about the purpose of each themed program,
describe a few typical stories, and list which Florida Sunshine
State Standards, ESOL strategies, or aspect of the curriculum
that program supports.

As former children's librarians,
the Kaleidoscope Storytellers are tuned into the needs of libraries.
The themed programs we are now
touring to schools work well in a library setting, plus we have prepared a new show designed especially to fit the theme and meet the goals of the Florida Library Youth Program 2006: Kaleidoscope Story Cafe.

| Workshops on storytelling and puppetry |

Storytelling, possibly the oldest living art form, is the birthright of every human being. Too often, however, we abandon our rights to those we consider officially creative. Stories belong in the board room and the classroom, at the dinner table and the campfire. Kaleidoscope Storytellers can help you develop your native skill in telling stories. Use one of these workshops to benefit your club or workplace, or let us tailor a seminar to meet your specific needs.
Introduction to Storytelling. So you want to be a storyteller? Well, you already are one. We'll help you develop your own style with exercises, coaching and encouragement.
Suggested for: adult education and activity centers, clubs, children's groups.
Introduction to Puppetry. Share your stories with a puppet! You don't need stages or scenery, just a few tips on choosing a story and working with your new partner.
Suggested for: education classes, child
care professionals, Head Start and preschool programs.
Start a Family Storytelling
Tradition. Your family
has stories that are too wonderful to lose. Find out how to draw
those stories from the memories of your grandparents, your parents
and even yourselves.
Suggested for: senior centers, family reunions,
activity clubs, parenting classes.
Two by Two: Tandem Telling. Stories can be more fun with two!
Learn a number of useful ideas on how to select and script a
story for tandem telling.
Suggested for: educators, students, drama
clubs, clown alleys.
Everyone on Stage: Letting Props, Puppets and Your Audience Help Tell the Story. Stories can be even more fun with when everyone gets a chance to participate. Learn a number of useful ideas on how to involve the audience in your stories.
Suggested for: educators, students, drama
clubs, clown alleys.
Storytelling in the Classroom. Storytelling builds self-esteem, increases
language skills and lets the non-academic student enjoy the spotlight.
Stories can also bring lessons to life, even if you teach mathematics.
Suggested for: teachers, students and teaching
interns.
Making Story Crafts and
Puppets. Props and puppets can enliven a story and give the teller confidence. We'll show you how to make simple storytelling aids from found or recyclable items.
Suggested for: craft clubs, scouting groups,
recreation centers

| Kaleidoscope residencies |
| |
Half day, whole day or multi-day
Kaleidoscope Residencies are available. A typical package would
include one or two concerts for your student body, multiple classroom
shows by the storytellers (individually or in tandem) and workshops
on storytelling and/or puppetry for staff, students and/or parents.
Contact us to arrange a schedule that
would work for your school.

| Kaleidoscope programs for adults |

Storytelling, perhaps the oldest
human art form, has been rediscovered as a grand entertainment
for adults. Drama, humor, tenderness and suspense are waiting
for you inside each story. Kaleidoscope Storytellers can entertain
adults at conferences, club meetings, birthday parties, library
programs, holiday get-togethers, retirement centers, church group
meetings, anniversaries and fund raisers. Contact
us if you need a speaker for your next club meeting or if
you're looking for something special for a family get-together.
Program offerings include
the following, or let us design a performance according to your
specific needs:
Love, Sweet and Sour The lighter side of love and marriage.
Too Scary for Kids Even grownups like a good ghost story!
Root and Branch Reap an armful of tales about plants
and gardening.
Truth and Consequences Issues of fair play and justice get
the common touch in these often humorous stories.
Side-Splitters Sometimes, all we want to do is make
you laugh!
A Stitch in Time Needlework in its many forms is the
common thread in these tales.
Furred & Feathered Folk For those of you who love the critters
as much as we do.

| Kaleidoscope Storytellers and your
budget |
| |
Kaleidoscope
Storytellers is based in east central Florida. We work mostly
in the Southeastern United States, but will travel further afield
for special events.
Our prices are based on the size of the
audience, the length of the program(s) and the location of the
event.
For example: in 2006 a 45-minute to 1 hour performance for an audience numbering under 200 in Volusia or Flagler (Florida) counties is priced at $200. Two hour-long programs (or four 30-minute shows) presented back-to-back in the same location would total $375.
Further reductions in hourly costs apply
for half day and whole day bookings in a school or in a library
system.
There are no travel fees for shows in
Volusia or Flagler (Florida) counties, but we do have a detailed
schedule of program minimums and travel fees for more distant
locations. Costs can be reduced if we can cluster a few schools
or libraries together in an area. Contact
us for a copy of our current price schedule, or you can tell us where you are located and what type and length of program you're interested in and we'll get right back to you with a quotation and with some alternate proposals and prices.
Prices for festivals, conferences, workshops
and residencies would need to be individually negotiated. |

A
few comments from schools, libraries and recreation departments
about our individual and tandem presentations.

"You can always be counted on to come up with programs that complement the statewide theme. I thought your idea this year, Spin the Kaleidoscope Story Wheel, Where It Stops, We'll Tell a Tale, was particularly clever. Our youngsters had a great time spinning the wheel to choose the stories. We had children coming into the library for weeks afterward wanting another turn to spin the wheel. Also, the publicity packet that you send to promote your programs is very helpful."

"I don't know how you do it, but every time I see you perform, it's just the best ever!!! The kids loved the idea of being able to spin the wheel to choose a story, and they would have sat there and listened to another hour's worth of stories if they could have! You have that magic, and it's inspiring to see. Thanks for once again giving us an unforgettably wonderful afternoon."
